Our Community

Momentum is a community of movement experimenters. We are composed of leaders from around the world who bring their craft and expertise to our programs as trainers, practitioners, facilitators, researchers, and artists.

Our leaders have gone on to found new movement organizations including Sunrise, Cosecha, Never Again Action, IfNotNow, Dissenters, By the People, GenVote, and Truth, Reconciliation, and Reparations. Our community of practice includes leaders from the aforementioned organizations as well as those from hundreds of organizations doing some of the most important movement-building in the U.S, including Black Lives Matter, MoveOn, BYP100, The Rising Majority, Working Families Party, RAÍCES, 350.org, Southerners on New Ground, Bend the Arc, Detroit Action, Pennsylvania Stands Up, Take Action Minnesota, and Florida Student Power Network.

Here’s what movement leaders are saying about Momentum:

“Too often we fail to translate energy in the streets to entrench our demands. Building that kind of organization is nearly impossible during that trigger event. Momentum supports activists not just to respond to moments, but to be ready for those moments to capture members and build visionary demands.”

Headshot of Sara Blazevic

“Momentum has given me language for understanding organizing and strategy as a craft — a set of skills to be honed and practiced in community. It has helped me see myself as a young leader walking in the footsteps of generations upon generations of organizers and freedom fighters who I can look to and learn from. And it has enabled me to shift from seeing my experiences in social movements not as isolated incidents but as parts of long historical and political cycles that can be seen in many social movements. Momentum is the single most valuable training you can go to to advance your understanding of how social movements build power to win.”

Sara Blazevic | Sunrise Movement Co-Founder

Headshot of Kandace Montgomery

“We need to get serious about the shared language and model of how we effectively do our work. This is an opportunity to enter that conversation, learn a lot, and fold into a powerful community trying to change not only the world, but how we go about building a new one.”

Kandace Montgomery | Black Visions Co-Founder

Headshot of Yonah Lieberman

“Many have tried and failed to get organizations to be like the movements in the streets. And many have tried and failed to build movements that can move power. Momentum is a place where you can learn to do both.”

Yonah Lieberman | IfNotNow Co-Founder
