2025 Programs
Momentum is a training institute and community of movement organizers. We bring people together to learn from each other and the history of global struggles. We cover everything from our hybrid organizing model that combines structure-based organizing and mass protest, to campaigning, power-mapping, culture-building, and more.
Whether you’ve never heard of hybrid organizing, or you’re a seasoned leader looking to sharpen your skills, you’ll find an opportunity to learn and connect with fellow movement organizers.
If you’re interested in one of our trainings, be sure to join our email list for the most up-to-date information.
Movement School
As Momentum’s core skills-based training program, the Movement School offers trainings that equip movement organizers with an understanding of Momentum’s hybrid organizing model and supports them in developing strategies that experiment with the model in the field. Many of the Movement School’s 2025 trainings are offered for Momentum’s affinity networks, tailored to the cultures and histories of social movement organizing in various communities; they also reflect Momentum’s focus on developing leaders who experience the gaps in the support in existing movement infrastructure.
Asian American Momentum
Asian American Momentum is an advanced skill building training on Momentum’s hybrid organizing model designed for Asian American organizers. In partnership with 18 Million Rising, the training will explore the history of Asian American US movement and provide spaces for AA organizers to learn with and from each other. The training fills an existing gap in leadership development infrastructure for AA organizers at a time when AA communities are at the center of major conflicts, including immigration and deportation, increasing militarism and fear mongering around China, labor activism among low-wage service workings, education and affirmative action, and housing and gentrification.
Date: April 8-11
Audience: Intermediate + seasoned AAPI organizers
Estrategias de Lucha
The Spanish-Language Momentum 101 training brings together Spanish-speaking leaders across different movements and serves as an introduction to the hybrid organizing model, filling in gaps that exist in leadership development programs for monolingual Spanish speakers. The training’s curriculum includes both translated elements of the English-language 101 curriculum and modules and case studies that have been updated to reflect the cultures of organizing in Spanish-speaking communities. The training is also the inaugural event of Momentum’s Estrategias de Lucha network for Spanish-speaking organizers: in partnership with the Workplace Justice Lab at Rutgers University, the training will introduce organizers to the network and provide an opportunity to envision what additional support the network can offer participants.
Date: May 22-25*
Audience: Spanish-speaking organizers in movement organizations, especially those in labor, housing justice, and immigrant rights movements
Black Momentum 101
Black Momentum roots the hybrid model in Black radical organizing traditions, honoring the significant role that Black organizing has played in the history and development of social movements. The Black Momentum 101 training provides a targeted venue in which Black organizers can strengthen their skills and prepare for greater levels of movement leadership and build relationships with other Black organizers.
Date: October 2 - 5*
Audience: Black organizers and movement leaders
Momentum 101
This Momentum 101 provides an introduction to the hybrid organizing model and an entry point to the Momentum community and the rest of Momentum’s leadership development offerings. Organizers will learn key frameworks of the Momentum organizing model through case studies, stories, and participating in learning groups with other attendees.
Date: November*
Audience: Organizers new to the Momentum model. This training is open to organizers invited by Momentum’s funders from their affiliated movements.
Advanced Skills Webinar
The Movement School’s Advanced Skills Webinars prepare leaders already working in the hybrid organizing model series for deeper experimentation. Past webinars have included modules on distributed organizing, movement’s relationships to electoral campaigns, and progressive populism; 2025 webinars offerings will reflect the ongoing learning of Community of Practice members.
Date(s): April, June, October*
Audience: Organizers who have attended a Momentum 101 training
Community of Practice
The Community of Practice (CP) brings together leaders from different movements who have been organizing in the hybrid model to build relationships, reflect on developments in the political climate, and share learnings from their work. The Community of Practice gives these leaders space to learn and strategize together. As a “living model,” Momentum’s hybrid organizing model relies on the experience and wisdom of the CP to grow alongside developments in the field. In 2025, our programming aims to strengthen the Community through in-person gatherings in regions with both well-established and emerging networks of CP members. These gatherings will facilitate the collective meaning-making, deep connections, and shared insights on hybrid organizing and social movement building that will enable Momentum to prepare for and support new experiments in 2026 and beyond.
Leaders Gathering
The Leaders Gathering will offer a chance for movement leaders to come together to assess what the 2024 election and the coming years will mean for progressive movements and their leaders. As movements gear up for the next 4 years, the Gathering will reaffirm the Community of Practice as a home for sharpening strategy, experimenting with new organizing tactics, and building long-lasting cross-movement ties in 2025 and beyond.
Date: March 9-11*
Audience: Top movement leaders in the Momentum Community of Practice who are currently experimenting with Momentum’s living hybrid model
Black Momentum Family Reunion
The Black Momentum Family Reunion celebrates 8 years of Black Momentum and convenes Black Momentum participants to strengthen community connections, create learning spaces, and foster cross-movement collaboration. This reunion coincides with the Black Momentum 101 training and gives new organizers and more seasoned members of the Community of Practice to convene and build relationships with one another.

Audience: Black movement leaders and organizers from groups like Dissenters, GSA, Sunrise, Housing 4 All, EWOC, Dream Defenders, Get Free, GenVote, Step-Up Louisiana, Tenant Federation, and BLMP
Happy Hours
Happy hours will support local relationship-building between movement organizers in a given region and serve as an in-person welcome to new members of the CP. Happy hours will be an opportunity for local organizers to step into CP leadership, offer informal skill-sharing, and strengthen the Community in key areas of the country.
